Description:

Turn an ordinary sweatshirt into a one-of-a-kind quilted jacket in this two-day workshop.

This class is beginner-sewing friendly and designed for anyone who is comfortable operating their sewing machine. Over two days, you’ll learn how to prepare and arrange your fabrics, fuse and stitch the appliqué pieces, construct the jacket, and finish it with coordinating binding.

Needle & Fire Workshop
7009 La Jolla Dr., Pine Bluff, AR 71603

$125 per person

Registration includes:

  • Two full days of instruction
  • Lunch both days
  • 2 yards of HeatnBond Lite
  • Use of our shared cutting table and ironing station

Only 5 seats available.

Registration closes October 15, 2026 so we can finalize plans with our visiting instructor.

What You’ll Need to Bring

  • A prewashed sweatshirt, at least one size larger than you normally wear. Two sizes larger is also appropriate if you prefer a roomier or longer jacket. The instructor specifically recommends washing it before class because the sweatshirt may shrink.
  • Assorted fabrics for the appliqué. Scraps, fat quarters, charm squares, layer cake pieces, or yardage may all be used. Keep in mind that portions of your sweatshirt will remain visible between the fabrics.
  • 1¼ yards coordinating quilting cotton for binding. For a very large or extra-long sweatshirt, we recommend 1½ yards.
  • Coordinating or variegated thread
  • One button, 1" or larger
  • Appliqué pressing sheet
  • Sewing machine in good working order
  • Basic sewing supplies, including pins, fabric scissors, paper scissors, and any rulers you normally use
  • Iron, if you have one. Bringing your own will help keep everyone moving, although we will have a shared ironing station available. The instructor’s original list also recommends bringing an iron when possible.

Skill Level: Beginner Sewing Friendly

You should be comfortable setting up and operating your sewing machine, but you do not need advanced garment-making or quilting experience.
